Bootstrapping and podcasting
ο»Ώ John Bartmann ο»Ώ I'd been podcasting since 2012, and noticed a sea-change that started in 2014, but really peaked in 2017-2018:

  • businesses were starting branded podcasts
  • lots of prosumers were interested in starting their own shows
  • I personally saw a lot more of my friends talking about podcasts and wanting to start their own show

ο»Ώ Pedro Hernandes ο»Ώ the biggest factor is the market. There has to be (existing) customer demand for what you're building!

I describe it further using this πŸ„β€β™‚οΈ metaphor:
πŸŽ™οΈ I'm building Transistor.fm with Jon Buda (podcast hosting and analytics)

πŸ“ˆ We started working together in Feb 2018, launched Aug 2018, and were both full-time by Aug 2019!

πŸ‘‚ We're a part of the creator economy, and already have customers using Gumroad to charge for access to their private podcast.
